ARRIVING at The Donum Estate felt much like entering another realm. Jaume Plensa’s sculpture "Sanna" welcomes you as you enter the 200+ acres of regenerative farming land. The main house is littered with incredible works by well-known artists, many of whom are close personal friends of the owners.
"Sanna" 2015 | Jaume Plensa (1965, Spain)
With over 50 sculptures thoughtfully curated throughout the land, you can spend hours exploring, and adventuring from sculpture to gardin to pond to sculpture and so on and so on until the sun sets. And thanks to a close friend who manages the operations at Donum, that is exactly what we did August 30th, the eve of the full blue moon.
The trip to Donum was more than I could have imagined. Having the run of this incredible land, chock full of individual worlds co-created by the artists and the land, while the sun and moon exchanged places was a Burning Man-esque experience, and truly one for the books.
"Crouching Spider" 2003 | Louise Bourgeois (1911-2010, France)
The structure housing Louise Bourgeois’s work was built entirely for the steel arachnid.

"Rehearsal" 2015 | El Anatsui (1944, Ghana)
Founded in 2011, The Donum Collection is one of the world's largest accessible private sculpture collections. More than 50 monumental works, including open-air sculptures, are placed on The Donum Estate, with over a third being site-specific commissions. Although I don’t drink, my friends said the organic wine selection available for tasting was lovely as well :)
